NCC: 2018-2019

Sadashivrao Mandlik Mahavidyalaya, Murgud
5 Maharashtra Battalion NCC, Kolhapur

The academic year 2018–2019 marked a historic milestone in the journey of Sadashivrao Mandlik Mahavidyalaya, Murgud, as the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Unit was established in the college for the first time under the guidance of 5 Maharashtra Battalion NCC, Kolhapur. The establishment of the NCC unit fulfilled the long-cherished dream of providing students with opportunities to develop discipline, leadership, patriotism, self-confidence, and a spirit of national service.

Soon after its commencement in July 2018, the NCC Department received an enthusiastic response from students. An enrolment drive and orientation programme were conducted to introduce students to the aims, objectives, and values of the National Cadet Corps. The newly enrolled cadets actively participated in every training activity with great zeal and commitment.

Throughout the academic year, the department successfully organized a series of institutional training parades and developmental programmes. Regular drill practices, physical fitness sessions, yoga, map reading, weapon training (theory), first aid, disaster management, civil defence, and personality development programmes were conducted to prepare cadets for future leadership responsibilities.

Special emphasis was laid on social service and community development. The cadets participated enthusiastically in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, campus cleanliness drives, tree plantation programmes, village service activities, health awareness campaigns, blood grouping and health check-up camps, and awareness rallies on national issues. These activities helped instil social responsibility and the importance of community service among the cadets.

The department celebrated all important national and commemorative days with great enthusiasm, including Independence Day, Kranti Din, Teachers’ Day, Hindi Diwas, Gandhi Jayanti, National Unity Day, Constitution Day, World AIDS Day, Armed Forces Flag Day, National Youth Day, Army Day, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, National Voters’ Day, Republic Day, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. These celebrations strengthened the cadets’ sense of patriotism, national integration, and civic responsibility.

Cadets also underwent intensive preparation for various NCC camps and certificate examinations. Special coaching sessions, parade practices, leadership workshops, mock written examinations, drill assessments, and annual camp preparation programmes were organized to enhance their confidence and performance.

The department successfully conducted more than 50 academic, training, social service, environmental, and national integration activities during its very first year of existence. The active participation of cadets in every programme reflected the success of the newly established NCC unit and laid a strong foundation for future achievements.

The remarkable progress achieved during the inaugural year was possible because of the constant encouragement and support of the college management, the Principal, the staff members, and the guidance received from 5 Maharashtra Battalion NCC, Kolhapur. The wholehearted participation and discipline displayed by the cadets deserve special appreciation.

Although the NCC unit was newly established during the academic year 2018–2019, it rapidly emerged as one of the most active student development platforms in the institution. The department remains committed to nurturing responsible, disciplined, and socially committed citizens who will contribute positively to society and uphold the ideals of the National Cadet Corps.

“Unity and Discipline” continues to inspire every cadet of the NCC Department, and the department looks forward to achieving greater heights in the years ahead.
